Obituary

Please keep in prayer the family of Mr. Raymond M. Hodge Sr. for he has transitioned from this earthly life on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

Raymond McKinley Hodge, Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Litchford Falls Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility. Raymond was born on June 24, 1933 to the late Mallie and Dixie Hodge in Bunn, North Carolina. Raymond completed elementary school and began working on the farm. In his later years, he joined the United States Army in
December 1953 and retired in August 1955. On December 9, 1958 Raymond married the love of his life, Mary Ailey Lee.

Raymond was a sharecropper from a young age. He went on to become a truck driver with Hasty Utilities for many years before his retirement. Raymond also worked as a welder with one of his longtime friends. He was a member of the Male Choir at New Bethel Baptist Church in Rolesville, North Carolina, and an active member of the Masonic Lodge of Wake Forest. “Eagle Rock,” as he was best known, enjoyed playing the guitar in his early years. He loved hunting and fishing with his boys, and later on with his grandchildren -- always catching more fish than they did. He spent his free time gardening, making homemade ice cream and watching baseball with Mary.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hodge; his daughter, Vicki Hodge; Son, Rene Hodge; and six siblings.

He is survived by his children: Margaret Ann Plummer (Todd) of Raleigh, NC; Joann Montague of Raleigh, NC; Raymond Hodge, Jr. (Wendy) of Bunn, NC; Ammie Crudup (David) of Zebulon, NC; and Janet Hopkins (Dewayne) of Stafford, VA. His brother, Robert “Rock” Hodge (Debra) of Bunn, NC. Also, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great
grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Raymond was loved and admired by many.
