Mr. Frank Stephen Whatley Sr.

August 15, 1934 ~ January 26, 2022 (age 87)


Frank Whatley departed this earthly life on January 26th, 2022 at the age 87, in Henderson, NC at Maria Parham Hospital. 

Frank Stephen Jose Whatley was born on August 15th, 1934 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Marion Whatley Jr., and Carmen Chavez Whatley. Frank had one older brother, Raymond Whatley and one younger sister Dorothy Whatley Evans. At an early age Frank's family moved to Fort Collins and a few years later they moved to Denver where he attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and eventually graduated in 1955 from Annunciation Catholic High School.

Frank was drafted and inducted into the Army in December of 1956. He received an Honorable Discharge and an early release in late 1957 due to an excess of Military Personnel. Frank met Frances Casados in 1958 and they married on February 14, 1959. There were five children born to their Marriage. Frank worked in a foundry in his early years and in 1968, he continued his education. He went to work as the Hearing Officer for the Denver Department of Social Services. He took early retirement in 1983. After retirement he worked in the printing and bindery industry for 10 years. 

Frank was blessed with the gift of music. He began his musical journey at the early age of 4. Frank sang and played guitar and banjo while his brother Ray accompanied him on violin and guitar. They entertained at community events and school dances. After high school they formed a band and together along with other band members; would enjoy over 30 years of entertaining for parties, weddings and family events. 

Frank moved to North Carolina in 2013 where he resided until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, son, Frank Whatley; son-in-law, Tony High. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory four children; Tina High, Alan Whatley (Jackie), Mark Whatley, Hope Archuleta (Randy); daughter-in-law, Kay Whatley; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
